I would remove the wood surrounding the fireplace along with the base of the fireplace. Once you gut the entire area around the fireplace I would reframe it with studs, add wonder board for veneer installation and as for the base I would install dekton top. It’s a stone surface that is resistant to scratches, stains, heat, and its definitely strong and durable which makes it perfect for a firplace. I’m a contractor for remodeling so I can do the entire job for you and my main specialty is stone surface so that I can supply for a great low price. If you haven’t already remolded the fireplace I can definitely do that for you if your either in NJ, NY or PA. Anywhere else is obviously too far. Let me know
That is a beautiful fireplace. I would add some aging techniques or glazing to it to really make it pop. Why spend the money to replace when you can enhance something that’s already really a beautiful piece?

December 26, 2018What if you painted the main part white and replaced the mantel with a live edge wood mantle? I agree that art is needed too.
